Shruti Haasan Biography: Shruti Haasan ( born January 28, 1986 ) is an Indian actress and singer who primarily works in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi films. She is the daughter of actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur and was born into the Haasan family.

Before making her adult acting debut in the 2009 Bollywood film Luck, Haasan sang in films and starred in a cameo role in her father’s directorial debut, Hey Ram (2000). Her main roles in the Telugu romantic comedy Oh My Friend (2011), the Telugu fantasy film Anaganaga O Dheerudu (2011), and the Tamil science-fiction action flick 7aum Arivu earned her fame (2011). She won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South for her roles in the last two. Gabbar Singh (2012), Vedalam (2015), Srimanthudu (2015), and Si3 were all commercially successful films for Haasan (2017). For the action-comedy Race Gurram, she got a Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu (2014). D-Day (2013), Ramaiya Vastavaiya (2013), Gabbar Is Back (2015), and Welcome Back (2015) are some of Haasan’s Hindi cinema roles (2015).

Haasan is a well-known playback vocalist in addition to acting. She is nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer – Tamil for “Kannazhaga Kaalazhaga” in 3 (2012) and “Yendi Yendi” in Puli (2015), as well as the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer – Telugu for “Junction Lo” in Aagadu (2014). Haasan got her start as a music director with her father’s film Unnaipol Oruvan (2009), and she’s since started her own band.

Early Life

Shruti Haasan was born in Madras, India, to actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur (present-day Chennai). Her father is Tamil, and her mother, Sarika, is a Maharashtrian by birth with a Rajput mother. Akshara Haasan, her younger sister, is also an actor. Chauhan, an actor, and lawyer is her uncle. Anu Hasan and Suhasini Maniratnam, both actresses, are her relatives. Haasan attended Lady Andal School in Chennai before transferring to St. Andrew’s College in Mumbai to study psychology.

Haasan concentrated on films and music, and after returning to Chennai, he went to the Musicians Institute in California to pursue his studies in music.

Haasan made her feature film debut in a cameo role as Vallabhbhai Patel’s daughter in the Tamil-Hindi bilingual Hey Ram, directed by her father Kamal Haasan and based on a murder attempt on Mahatma Gandhi. After turning down major film offers, including the main role in Venkat Prabhu’s Saroja, rumors surfaced in late 2007 that Haasan was poised to make her official acting debut in 2008 in a film directed by Nishikanth Kamat and starring Madhavan. The film, titled Endrendrum Punnagai, was put on hold before production began.

In January 2011, she made her Telugu debut, starring alongside Siddharth in Prakash Kovelamudi, the son of filmmaker K. Raghavendra Rao, in the fantasy adventure film Anaganaga O Dheerudu. Shruti plays a gypsy with magical healing abilities who is defended by a swordsman played by Siddharth in the film, which was co-produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The film received excellent reviews upon its release, with one critic stating, “Shruti looks extremely gorgeous and has a superb screen presence,” while another reviewer from stated, “Shruti looks gorgeous and has a mysterious vibe about her.”

In Madhur Bhandarkar’s romantic comedy Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, she made a prolonged cameo appearance with Emraan Hashmi, Ajay Devgn, and Shazahn Padamsee in an ensemble cast. Hashmi played Nikki Narang, the stepdaughter of an ex-Miss India model, in the film, with her character falling in love with both her mother and her daughter. Shruti’s portrayal was panned by critics, with one claiming that her character had been “reduced to post-interval surfacing, last-ditch glitter,” while another described her as “so phony that she only provides disappointment”; yet, the film was a box office triumph.

Critics slammed Shruti’s performance, with one saying she was “reduced to post-interval surfacing, last-ditch glitter,” and another saying she was “so false that she just gives disappointment”; yet, the film was a box office success.” Rarely is a heroine given near-equal footing in Tamil films,” he writes, adding that she is “ravishing” but “could work harder on spontaneity and fine-tuning her Tamil accent,” but that “the important is the actor shows promise.” Oh My Friend, a romantic comedy film starring Siddharth again, Hansika Motwani, and Navdeep, was her next Telugu release. The film highlighted the story of childhood friends, as well as their platonic connection that continued into adulthood, and Shruti Haasan learned Kuchipudi dancing for the role. The film received mixed reviews at its initial release, with numerous critics noting that it evoked a sensation of “déjà vu,” yet one reviewer added, “Shruti Haasan”.
